1a. The book Contemporary Dutch Masters (hereinafter: the Book) offers approximately 70 Masters of Realism the opportunity to present themselves in an exclusive book with a high circulation to a large and interested audience.
1b. Masters of Realism can present themselves in the Book with an interview or a presentation of 1, 2, or 3 pages.
1c. The composition and publication of the Book are the responsibility of De Kunst Collega’s BV (hereinafter: publisher).
1d. The Book is published biennially in the first half of March.
1e. Masters of Realism who wish to present themselves in the Book fully and unconditionally accept these terms and conditions of participation.
- Applying for participation.
2a. Masters of Realism apply for a presentation in the Book by submitting the fully completed application form.
2b. You can register via the website of the Masters of Realism: https://mastersofrealism.com/aanmelden-contemporary-dutch-masters/
2c. The closing date for registration for an interview or presentation is biennially on December 1 (starting in 2024).
2d. The publisher may refuse an application for a presentation without stating reasons.
2e. A Master of Realism who has registered and is rejected will not owe any costs.
- Unsubscribing from participation.
3a. Deregistration for participation must be done by e-mail or regular mail. Deregistration is always confirmed by the organization within a few working days.
3b. Deregistration is possible free of charge up to 5 working days after registration.
3c. Deregistration within 5 working days to 1 month after registration is possible for 40% of the costs associated with the presentation.
3d. Deregistrations within 1 and 2 months after registration are possible for 80% of the costs associated with the presentation.
3e. In the event of deregistration later than 2 months after registration, the full costs will be due.
- The presentations.
4a. In order to safeguard the quality of the presentations and thus, to a large extent, the quality of the Book, the photos must meet quality requirements that are partly determined in terms of image technical qualities (see 4f) and partly in a qualitative/artistic sense.
4b. In order to achieve a harmonious layout, the layout of the Book is determined and monitored by the designer.
4c. Each presentation in the Book on 1 page consists of 1 image (i.e. 1 painting) plus the caption with the details of the painting. In addition, the artist’s website and the selling price of the painting are mentioned.
4d. Each presentation in the Book on 2 pages consists of 2 images (i.e. 2 paintings) plus the captions with the details of the paintings. In addition, the artist’s website and the selling prices of the paintings are mentioned.
4e. Each presentation in the Book on 3 pages consists of 3 images (i.e. 3 paintings) plus the captions with the details of the paintings. In addition, the artist’s website and the selling prices of the paintings are mentioned.
4f. An interview in the Book covers 3 pages and is conducted by telephone or e-mail by a journalist via the publisher of the Book. 3 paintings are also placed with an interview
4g. The deadline for submitting the photo or photos for the Book is biennially on December 1 (start in 2024).
4h. The photo or photos for the presentation or interview must be uploaded via the form and must all be at least 300 dpi (jpeg or tif).
4i. The colors are converted to CMYK for printing, which may result in some color difference.
4j. The publisher ensures a harmonious layout of all presentations.
4k. All presentations are submitted to the artists for verification after layout, before printing.
4l. The publisher determines where in the Book the presentations are placed.
4m. In the event of late or incorrect delivery of the images, the right to participate will lapse and the costs will remain due.
4n. If more photos are e-mailed than can be placed in the presentation, the layout designer will choose one of the photos sent.
4q. The photos must be free of rights and can be placed without costs and/or mention of the photographer.
4r. By submitting one or more photos, permission is granted to use the photo or photos without compensation for other (promotional) purposes for the benefit of the Book, such as on the website of the Masters of Realism or in other (promotional) expressions for the benefit of the Book.
- The book.
5a. The Book is published biennially at the beginning of March (starting in 2025).
5b. The Book is primarily intended to offer Masters of Realism the opportunity to present themselves to a wider audience. The Book is expected to be consulted and viewed by the owner and also by co-readers.
5c. The following presentation options are available in the book: 10 interviews with a size of 2 or 3 pages. 20 presentations with 3 pages, 20 with 2 pages and 20 with 1 page. 1 page is always free of charge.
5d. The presentations and interviews are assigned in order of registration.
5e. The book has approximately 150 pages, has a format of 30 x 30 cm (=larger than A4) and a circulation of 3,000 copies. If there is great interest, the size of the book will be expanded.
5f. If there is insufficient interest in participating in the book or if the realization proves not to be feasible for other reasons, the publisher reserves the right to postpone or cancel the publication.
- Costs.
6a. Artists owe a contribution to the costs for their presentation or interview in the Book with inclusion of their data and 1 to 3 full-color photos of their work.
6b. Participation is possible with: a 3-page interview (€ 650), a 3-page presentation (€ 520), a 2-page presentation (€ 260), a 1-page presentation (free of charge).
6e. A presentation with 1 page does not include a Book; a presentation with 2 pages includes 3 Books; a presentation with 3 pages or an interview includes 6 Books.
6f. If there is a paid participation, this will take place immediately upon registration. The artist will receive an invoice by e-mail after payment.
6g. Up to six weeks before the publication of the Book, artists who present themselves in the Book can buy extra books with a large pre-subscription discount.
6h. The contribution to the costs includes the layout of the page or pages.
6i. All costs for composition, printing and distribution of the Book are borne by the publisher.
6j. All costs for sales and promotion of the Book are borne by the publisher.
- Other provisions.
7a. The provisions expressed in these terms and conditions of participation can be adjusted by the publisher without further notice.
7b. Agreements made prior to the adjustment of the terms and conditions of participation will remain in force with the conditions applicable prior to the adjustment of the terms and conditions of participation.
7c. In unforeseen cases, the publisher will judge and act reasonably.
7d. In cases of differences of opinion about the interpretation of what is laid down in these conditions, the publisher’s judgment is decisive.
7e. Dutch law applies to these terms and conditions of participation.
