This still life brings together two cherished keepsakes: an old pewter vase and a piece of crochet work made by my grandmother. Inspired by Rembrandt’s use of light and shadow, and with his portraits of Marten Soolmans and Oopjen Coppit in mind, I sought to give these everyday objects a timeless and almost ceremonial presence.
